Description | Introduce students to measurement and data analysis techniques through electronic as well as mechanical systems. Develop practical skills and concepts needed to tackle various engineering tasks. Devices introduced and operated in the lab • Electronics: PC based oscilloscope and signal generator, breadboard, digital multimeter, various electronic components, and operational amplifier ICs • Solid mechanics: strain gages/ load cells • Thermal/Fluids: thermocouples, pressure transducers, U-tube manometers, pressure gauges, fluid flow rate control, and fluid flow meters. Concepts and analytical skills • Static and dynamic calibration of instruments, random and bias errors, interpretation of instrument specifications • Statistical analysis of data through mean, standard deviation, data fitting, quality of fit, and quantification of uncertainty in measured data • Using of spreadsheets for tabulating and plotting data, performing calculations, and curve fitting • Presentation of data using tables/ chart and drawing conclusions based on comparison with theory.
